Unlike conventional commercial entertainers, Peddi takes a content-driven route. Director Buchi Babu Sana attempts to tell a layered story that combines sports, personal struggles, relationships, and emotional drama. The intent is admirable, and many portions work effectively.

However, the film occasionally suffers from trying to do too much within its three-hour-plus runtime. Several scenes feel stretched, and a tighter screenplay could have significantly enhanced the overall impact.

But this is not a show stopper as the content driven drama shifts the gear creating the anticipation on what's going to happen next....

The High Points

For a sports drama, emotional highs and adrenaline-pumping moments are crucial, and Peddi delivers them in abundance.

The cricket episodes in the first half are engaging and well-staged. The Kusthi (wrestling) training portions and competitions add depth to the narrative while showcasing the protagonist’s journey effectively. The standout sequence, however, is the penultimate race episode, which is executed brilliantly and leaves a lasting impression.

These moments provide the film with the emotional and cinematic elevation audiences expect from a big-screen sports drama.

The Drawbacks

While the film scores big in several areas, it also has its share of shortcomings.

The romantic track involving Janhvi Kapoor feels underdeveloped and lacks emotional weight. Her character, despite having potential, deserved stronger writing and a more impactful presence in the narrative.

Certain scenes appear unnecessarily prolonged, affecting the pacing. Additionally, an item song in the second half evokes strong memories of Pushpa, making it feel somewhat out of place within the film's overall tone.

Ram Charan Delivers a Career-Defining Performance. The biggest strength of Peddi is undoubtedly Ram Charan. The actor carries the film almost entirely on his shoulders, delivering one of the finest performances of his career. The role demands intense physical transformation while simultaneously requiring emotional vulnerability and depth. Balancing both aspects is no easy task, but Ram Charan excels throughout. From powerful emotional scenes to physically demanding sports sequences, he consistently commands attention and leaves a strong impact.

Supporting Cast

Janhvi Kapoor as Acchiyamma delivers bubbly role with glam treat.

Veteran actor Shiva Rajkumar is fantastic and adds gravitas whenever he appears on screen. 

Jagapathi Babu delivers a rock-solid performance, while Divyenndu performs competently in a significant role.

Supporting actors Boman Irani, Ravi Kishan, and Upendra Limaye provide dependable support and contribute effectively to the narrative.

Technical Departments

Music composer A. R. Rahman delivers a strong soundtrack, with Chikiri emerging as a standout track. The background score is energetic and significantly enhances the emotional and sports-driven moments.
