Himesh Reshammiya Shares His Secret to Delivering Hit Music and Why He Prefers Romantic Tracks on Komal Nahta’s Game Changers: The Music Series

"If there is no romantic song, I turn them down. Forgive me, I don't want to work on them." Himesh Reshammiya opens up on why he prefers to work on romantic songs on Komal Nahta’s Game Changers: The Music Series

Komal Nahta, one of India’s most respected trade analysts, is back with a fresh season of his podcast Game Changers: The Music Series. This edition shines a spotlight on celebrated singers, composers, and music maestros as they share their creative journeys, inspirations, and the untold stories behind the music that has shaped generations. The latest episode featured Himesh Reshammiya.

As one of Indian cinema's most hit-machine composers and singers, Himesh Reshammiya has carved a niche with his chart-topping songs, defining the soundscapes of the 2000s and continuing to command massive digital listener numbers.

Known for his commercial instincts and focus on what resonates with the audience, the maestro opened up about his strict creative preferences and music selection process, sharing, “I frequently get situational films where I am required to make songs for two friends or siblings. They are just straight situational songs. Because I want to work on romantic songs, if 90% of the film consists of five or six situational songs and there is no romantic song, I turn them down. Forgive me, but I don’t want to work on them. I have clarity because the numbers coming from romantic songs are 10 times higher. I like doing romantic songs, and I am very good at it. When I work on a film, there is a certain expectation. If I don’t deliver those numbers, they won’t say that the numbers weren’t good because there was no romantic song.”
